As with most of my Oktoberfest photos, they are usually lacking in quality. See the problem is that I usually have some of Cincinnati’s finest Christian Moerlein in my other hand and we all know that is no way to take quality photos. I was very disappointed that by the time I made my way to the Christian Moerlein booth, all the Fifth & Vine beer was sold out so I settled for some fine OTR Ale. It was amusing to see the line at the Erdinger Biergarten since Erdinger isn’t even one of the highly regarded beers. It took me 40 minutes to get a beer from that stand. With 500,000 of my closest friends surrounding me, a beer in my hand and my daughter pulling on my shirt for a delicious Schmidt Haus brat, I was just happy that my Nikon didn’t suffer from one drop of spilled beer. In a week I will get a taste of the real thing while in Germany for three weeks but until then you can view my 2007 Oktoberfest Zinzinnati photos here. |

This was my fourth Riverfest festival in the five that have been celebrated since moving to Cincinnati and like always they didn’t disappoint. We reserved our serpentine wall spot on the previous day and had a fantastic viewing of the fireworks. The afternoon was hot and long but we were prepared with sun screen, games and a radio to listen to the WEBN announcements. The Naked Cowboy made a cameo and there were several other local celebrities I saw floating around the crowd. In the end we had another fantastic year on the serpentine wall and now I get to look forward to Oktoberfest Zinzinnati. Here is the link to the 2007 Cincinnati Bell/WEBN Riverfest Fireworks. |

While the Square still isn’t finished, the latest step brought it much closer to its finished appearance. Last week the crane was removed and the glass panes were illuminated in neon lighting. It is nice to see what was envisioned when 3CDC announced the redevelopment of Fountain Square two years ago but I have to admit that I have been impatient about the Square’s slow progress. At this time, the building that will house Nicola’s Via Vite restaurant still isn’t complete and none of the new retail or restaurants have opened on the actual Square. It is confirmed that Graeter’s and Potbelly’s will be coming soon and Dewey’s Pizza is rumored. I still would love to see a flagship Joseph Beth’s bookstore on the square especially since they are based out of Cincinnati but I haven’t heard anything since the two year old rumor that they would be coming to the Square.
On a positive note, the people are returning to the square. The foot traffic has increased and movie night on the Square has been a tremendous success. My family and I have attended two of the movie nights and I have walked by during two others and each time the crowd has grown larger and larger. Yesterday while we were downtown, I stopped by the square to take a few photos and was impressed with the crowd. I am glad to see families bringing their children to the city again. As a child living in Long Island, I always loved visiting New York City. I loved looking at the buildings and experiencing the energy of the city and that has stayed with me as I have gotten older. I am sure many of kids that visit downtown Cincinnati get the same feeling.
I have added eight photos to the Fountain Square gallery that can be found here or you can view them in one thread at UrbanOhio.com. |

My latest additions of the Cincinnati Skyline were taken during a beautiful day in July. The Ohio River was blue and the sky was clear. My first stop was at a riverfront park in Newport located west of the BB Riverboats dock. The park is the perfect location for a picnic with plenty of shade. There is a playground for kids and benches around the perimeter. You can view the gallery here or the entire thread of photos on Urban Ohio. |
